"Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in the UK (after non-melanoma skin cancer). Over 42,000 new cases are diagnosed every year. Breast cancer claims the lives of 12,400 women each year in the UK. The good news is, thanks to earlier detection and improved treatment, breast cancer death rates in the UK have fallen by a fifth over the last ten years. Of those women diagnosed with breast cancer today, two-thirds are likely to survive for at least 20 years." That is sobering information. Nearly everyone I know has been touched by breast cancer. And if you haven't directly been touched by it, everyone knows someone who has at some time in their life.People I love have been touched by breast cancer several times in my life. As a result, I now have the power to do something about it. I'm going to give the proceeds of my new book to the Breakthrough Breast Cancer Research charity. I promised all these updates to the website last year and none of them materialised. Well it's 2007 now and I've managed to shift some of my day jobs around so I'm not so busy every hour of the day and I hereby vow, if it's the last thing I do, to get this website up and running. After all, it's just a case of writing a bit of content and giving it to a designer and getting them to update it all and make it look pretty, right? You'd think, wouldn't you. But nothing ever seems to go smoothly. So in the grand tradition of new year resolutions, I've vowed to: 1.
